Electron microscopy of cytoplasmic crystalloids in rat parotid glands.

چکیده
Crystalloid-containing bodies that may be lysosomes were observed by electron microscopy in acinar and striated duct cells of normal fasted rat parotid glands. The crystalloids varied in number from animal to animal and from lobule to lobule. They consisted of either parallel linear densities with a 5Snm periodicity, or of alternating major dense and minor light lines, with a 15 nm distance between successive major lines. it was concluded that the presence of a few such crystalloids in parotid glands of treated rats is not a cytopathic effect and they are significant only when present in large numbers.

Effect of ionizing radiation on rat parotid gland.
A common side effect of radiotherapy used in the treatment of oral cancer is the occurrence of structural and physiological alterations of the salivary glands due to exposure to ionizing radiation, as demonstrated by conditions such as decreased salivary flow. The present study evaluated ultrastructural alterations in the parotid glands of rats receiving a fractionated dose (1,500-cGy) of radia...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical and Immunocytochemical Localization of Amylase in Rat Parotid Glands and von Ebner’s Glands by Ion Etching-Immunoscanning Electron Microscopy
The distribution of amylase in rat parotid glands and von Ebner's glands was examined using ion etching-immunoscanning electron microscopy, which enables both light and electron microscopic observations of identical semi-thin resin sections immunolabeled with anti-α-amylase and immunogold in association with silver enhancement. At the light microscopic level, most acinar secretory granules (SG)...
متن کاملFine structure of the acinar and duct cell components in the parotid and submandibular salivary glands of the rat: a TEM, SEM, and HRSEM study.
Parenchymal and stromal components of the rat parotid and submandibular glands were examined by conventional and high resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRSEM). Freeze-fractured specimens were subjected to HCl and NaOH extraction procedures to better differentiate connective tissue and cellular components. In addition, the internal three-dimensional morphology of the secretory acinar cell...
متن کاملImmunocytochemical analysis of cyclic AMP receptor proteins in the developing rat parotid gland.
UNLABELLED Previous studies showed that regulatory subunits of type II cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase (RII) are present in adult rat parotid acinar cells, and are secreted into saliva. If the synthesis and intracellular distribution of RII exhibit developmental specificity, then RII can be an indicator of secretory and regulatory activity of salivary glands. OBJECTIVE To determine the ex...
متن کاملThe effects of tannin-rich diet on protein composition of parotid and submandibular glands of Guinea Pig
Tannins are plant-derived polyphenolic compounds that are widely found in foods, particularly in fruits and beverages. These materials are water-soluble and able to precipitate proteins from aqueous solutions. It had been shown that feeding some animals such as rat and mouse with tannins mimicks the effects of isoproterenol on salivary glands. Tannins stimulate β-receptors by some indirect me...
